We have had another busy week and the children have completed lots of tasks to a high standard. 6D have worked really hard for a supply teacher whilst Mrs Dobkin was off and have done her proud.
English
This week we have completed a writing task putting ourselves into the shoes of the main character, Michael. The children wrote a diary entry focusing on the moment Michael first saw Kensuke and it was a bit of a tense moment. The children worked really hard on trying to include emotion in their writing to portray the character’s feelings and we have been impressed with their work. We have also done some role play this week and asked the children to produce a news broadcast focusing on the moment Michael went missing from the boat. They used great expression, tone and actions to showcase this emotional moment for the parents.
Maths
We have come to the end of our place value unit and the children have done well. We have covered concepts including rounding, negative numbers and ordering and comparing. This week we also had a look at our first arithmetic paper and the children did really well with this and should be proud of their scores. We will continue to build on these arithmetic skills over the coming weeks. Our next unit is four operations and is a fundamental part of our maths curriculum.
We have noticed that some children are not 100% confident with their times tables – this is a key skill for Y6 so please continue to work on this at home.
