We have had another brilliant week in Year 6! It has been full of interesting learning and new opportunities.
Golf Tournament
We were lucky enough to host a golfing tournament at school on Tuesday and Year 6 were chosen to both take part in and lead the tournament. On Monday, a coach from Leeds Rhinos came and taught the children the various activities and then on Tuesday, they were divided into two teams: Europe and the USA. Children from a variety of schools came to participate in the fun and complimented our children on their politeness and teamwork. Team USA was victorious in golf but Team Europe apparently sang the loudest so a draw was proclaimed. We aren’t sure that we will see the same decision in the golf taking place in Rome but it was a brilliant afternoon, enjoyed by all.
Oreo Cookie Plate Tectonics
This week in Geography, the children have been learning a little more about plate tectonics: specifically the different types of boundaries which exist between plates found around the world. They used Oreos to show the difference between the boundaries and then enjoyed eating their learning at the end of the lesson! Test your child on the difference between divergent, convergent and conservative boundaries and see if they remember which are likely to produce earthquakes!
Drama and Assessments
We have continued to read our text Kensuke’s Kingdom and this week used drama to get into character. Next week we will be writing as the character Kensuke and trying hard to make our writing full of tension and excitement. This will form part of our assessments which we will do throughout the week alongside assessments in maths, reading and grammar.
For our Geography unit of work we need some cereal boxes over the next few weeks. If you have any at home please could you send them in! Thank you.
