5HB Residential Day 3
After another good night’s sleep, it was time to pack our bags and prepare to leave Gearstones Lodge. Because the weather forecast for this morning was for rain (what a surprise!) and the majority of children had a very limited supply of dry clothes, we decided not to do the full river walk as originally planned. Instead, we took the children for a very picturesque walk under the Ribblehead viaduct. The children knew a lot about how the viaduct was built as one of our children’s great, great, great grandmothers lived in a settlement where the workers lived. He shared the information with us before residential and it was wonderful to walk under the iconic viaduct and imagine how life must have been for the people who built it. After our walk, we did our final bits of packing and headed home.
All of the staff would like to say a big well done and thank you to the children who made this year’s residential a truly memorable experience. They showed what resilient, brave, positive children they are and I’m sure you are as proud of them as we are! We are also very grateful to Mrs Du Preez and Mrs Hawkhead who stayed all week with both Y5 classes and made sure everything ran as smoothly as ever.
Here is a link to some photos from today.
Have a lovely half-term.
The Year 5 Team.

Lovely ending to an amazing trip. Thank you to all the staff for making this happen regardless of the wet weather. Have a restful half term everyone. 😊
Thank you to Team Farfield for taking the kids on an amazing adventure this week. True resilience and team work involved to negotiate the never ending rain! Highlights were the fish & chips / money tree / games room / caving / muddy faces from all the puddles when mountain biking and a nice warm shower followed by pampering from Miss Hawkhead’s hair dryer – Thank you all. Enjoy the break with your families.
Great photos! Thanks again for giving the children the opportunity to try so many new and exciting things and create such special memories. We’re stocking up on better waterproofs for the Y6 residential…!! Happy half term, all.
