5L residential day 3

5L had a very successful residential. The children were lovely and we hope that they enjoyed themselves. Thank you to those parents that were able to help us at New Pudsey this afternoon. A huge thank you to Miss Levett, Mrs Barraclough, Miss Burak and Emily for staffing the residential. Extra special thanks to Mrs Hawkhead for, frankly, doing the lion’s share of the organisation and for being there all week from early in the morning until late at night. It probably wouldn’t happen without her…

This morning we had a lovely walk along Winterscales Beck (the clue’s in the name). Thankfully, it didn’t look like this:

We looked at features of a river and for clues about the river such as the maximum height of the flow.  We looked at sediment, erosion, deposition, tributaries, a confluence and caves. We found bones, saw tadpoles and some of us spotted a hare (or VERY large rabbit) and a curlew. There were lovely wild flowers and beautiful weather. At times, we had a chance to clamber along the riverbank or down into Haws Gill Wheel. We sat and watched a brilliant display from sand martins and saw them entering and shooting out of their holes. We went under the viaduct and learnt about its construction.

Finally we all met back at the Ribblehead Station. 5B got off the 12.07 from Leeds, we said hello then they started their resi and we caught a train back to Leeds five minutes later.

All done for another year…

Thank you for the blog posts and photos. It was lovely to see everyone in such high spirits when they got off the train.
The only complaint seems to be simply that it was over too quickly.
Well deserved thanks to all of the staff team, and also to 5L for looking after each other!
