We were all waiting for Jeremy Hunt’s announcements on Thursday and there was a pleasant surprise in terms of increases in school funding for the next two financial years. This is chronically needed as our school and many others face an overall deficit as a result of rising costs, unfunded (below inflation) pay rises and some excess places in the school system. It would also be good for the government to finally fully implement the National Funding Formula and provide Leeds with its full budget allocation for SEND. Every year, our budget is capped and this has cost our city tens of millions of pounds over the past few years. Again next year, our schools will be transferring an additional 0.5% of their budgets across to the High Needs Block to try to make up this artificial shortfall.
On a lighter note, rehearsals are starting for three different Christmas shows across the school. Costumes are being unboxed and props sourced. Singing can be heard in classrooms and halls and it is a lovely herald of the festivities to come. The children aren’t shy: no shortage of auditionees and impromptu performances on the yard and field.
