Headteacher Blog 10th November 2023
May I first wish everyone Happy Diwali if you are celebrating this weekend!
It’s been a very busy week at Farfield with two parents’ evenings and two evening trips to the theatre – one of which was aborted!
On Tuesday and Wednesday we had successful parents’ evenings although we very much prefer the in-person traditional appointments rather than telephone calls. We may limit the number of remote appointments we offer and promote Google Meets rather than phone calls.
On Monday, 60 Y5 and Y6 children arrived in Bradford for an evening performance of Life of Pi to find it cancelled at short notice due to a technical breakdown. We managed to rearrange for Thursday and enjoyed a spectacular show. It was probably the most challenging, mature performance we have had with our ‘Show Time’ club but the children seemed to enjoy it and it certainly left them thinking… My funniest moment was when a sailor in the show used a relatively mild swear word and our part of the audience gave out an audible gasp! Many children turned to look at me – did they expect me to stand up and tell him off?
On a theatrical theme, Year 5 have just started to rehearse for their Christmas show. They have about a month to learn words, songs and stage directions. Infants will be starting their nativity-style show rehearsals too: a highlight of the year every year.
Finally, Reception children enjoyed an owl workshop earlier in the week linked to their class book ‘Owl Babies’. I believe every child got the opportunity to handle the birds and some flew around the main school hall.
