Steady Hands and Sound…

Year 4 have really hit the ground running this week and have produced some great pieces of work, which we would love to share with you!

Science

In science, we have started a brand new topic all about sound. This week, we focused on how sounds were produced, carrying out a variety of small investigations to see if we could spot any patterns. We noticed that something has to move in order for a sound to be made, whether that is the crash of a cymbal or the vibration of a vocal chord. Next week we are due a visit from Sam the Sound Man, who will help us further develop this idea and also begin to explore how sounds travel through a space.

DT

Our big focus this week has been our DT project. We started by spending some time looking at different examples of steady hand games to try and get a feel for how they worked. Once we had an understanding of this, the children came up with some designs for their own versions of the games, identifying the materials that they would need and what they wanted it look like. We then had to use our knowledge of circuits to find a way to light a bulb only when the metal loop of the handle was touching the wire. The children all did fantastically well and were justifiably pleased with the results!
