Phonics

In phonics we revised the tricky words learnt so far – I, to and no. Our new tricky word this week is ‘go‘.

We have learnt the phonemes r, h and b. Can your child think of any words which start with r, h and b? Can they make and sound out some simple words like rag, hat, bed using their phonic flashcards?

Maths

This week we have been learning about the number 5. The children enjoyed this song.

The children have been using a die frame.

They have been doing lots of practical activities and they all enjoyed the pizza game!

Amazing Owls

The children have enjoyed using clay to create an owl. They have also been busy painting and drawing owls.

Bonfire Event

We hope that you all enjoyed our Bonfire Event. The children all performed the firework poem brilliantly – well done!

Reading Challenge

We have a new reading challenge for 2023-24! This year we would like children to read a book each month that fits in with each monthly theme. November’s theme is Light and Dark. Teachers will guide children when choosing books and give ideas about each monthly theme. Children can choose a book from the library or a book at home to read each month and then add it to their chart which will be stuck into reading records. When they have completed each monthly challenge, they can earn a dojo. At the end of the year, children who have completed all of the monthly challenges will be included in a prize draw! Good luck!

Maths Meeting

We are looking forward to seeing you all next week at our maths meetings on Wednesday 22nd November 2023. The meetings are at 2.40pm – 3.10pm in the Infant hall or 6.00pm – 6.30pm on Google Meet. Please click here for the link to join the online meeting. We will be discussing how we teach maths in Reception and how you can support your child at home. We really hope that you will be able to join us at one of the sessions. This session is for adults – the children don’t need to attend.

Have a super weekend.

The Reception Team.
