Farsley Farfield Primary School

Another busy week

Maths

This week, we have continued learning about addition and subtraction and have been practising adding 2-digit and 3-digit numbers together. We used our number bonds to 10 to work out compliments to 100 and shared patterns that we found in pairs. We ended the week looking at estimation and will continue with this next week.

The Place Between

In English this week, we have enjoyed reading more of Leon and the Place Between and writing sentences using abstract and concrete noun phrases. We enjoyed looking carefully at the Place Between and wrote down expanded noun phrases to describe the setting.

Where in the world?

In Geography this week, we have continued our work on mountains, looking particularly at the features of a mountain. We enjoyed learning about the seven summits and finding mountain ranges on different continents. Some children then went on to research a peak of their choice. We also enjoyed a ‘Who am I?’ round, which involved remembering the features of a mountain.

Science

In science, we have been learning about soil and what it is made of. Children enjoyed drawing diagrams and explaining verbally and in writing what each layer includes and what this might mean for plants above the soil.

R.E

In RE, we learnt more listened to the story of Noah’s ark and shared how we thought Noah might have felt on the Ark. We shared our own experiences linked to obedience and then created a rainbow of promises we intend to keep. We made links with the story, drawing back on our key question about how Christians lead good lives.

Reading challenge

This year, children have been set a challenge to read a book linked to a different theme each month. Children who complete every month will be entered into a prize draw at the end of the year! The challenge sheet has been added to Google Classrooms to add to throughout the year. This month, the theme is ‘Light and Dark’.

Non-uniform day

The PTA are holding a Festive Fair after school on Wednesday 6th December from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm, with a range of stalls, games, food and hot drinks available.

As part of the fair, there will be a ‘colour raffle’. In exchange for a coloured donation, children are invited to come to school in non-uniform on Monday 27th November.  Thank you to everyone that has already made a donation.

Year 3 coloured donations are purple.

Well done to our special mentions this week – Sumayyah, Oliver, Amy, Theo and Reece!

Have a lovely weekend.
