Maths
We completed our multiplication and division topic in Maths this week by multiplying 3 numbers together. We looked at efficient methods for multiplication and what happens when two numbers are multiplied by 0 or 1. The children showed a good understanding of this and have showed improvements in their times tables recall recently too! We have also completed our end of term arithmetic and problem solving and reasoning assessments this week, which the children all worked really hard on.

English
We have started a new topic in English this week based on a book called ‘Pride’ based on the story of Harvey Milk and the rainbow flag. We started by completing a word study of the word ‘pride’ and thought about its definition and what it means to us. We then looked at subordinating conjunctions and wrote sentences to explain Harvey Milk’s dream using multiple clauses. Finally, after reading about the origins of the rainbow flag, the children thought of abstract nouns (a thing which can be felt or experienced, but not seen or touched) to describe what the flag stood for. Have a look at the video below to recap subordinating conjunctions!

Science
In Science this week, the children were investigating how the volume of a sound changes depending on the distance away from the source of the sound. The children used data loggers to measure the volume of the sound of a glockenspiel at different distances. They recorded their results in a table and interpretted their data to make a conclusion. They found that the further away from the source of the sound, the quieter the volume.
