Reception News – 12.1.24
Happy New Year! The children have had a great first week back and have all been very busy.
Phonics
Our tricky word this week is ‘me‘. Can your child say this word in a sentence?
We have also learnt the phoneme/ grapheme ‘x‘. Can you use your phonic flashcards to make words that have ‘x‘ in?
Fast Phonics
Well done to everyone who has been working hard on Fast Phonics. We have given out lots of certificates this week.
Whatever Next!
Our focus book this half term is Whatever Next! by Jill Murphy.
The children have had lots of fun acting out this story.
Reading Challenge
Well done to everyone who has completed the first two months of the Reading Challenge. This month the theme is ‘Feelings’. The challenge sheet is in your child’s reading record.
Maths
We have been doing lots of counting this week. We have revisited the concept of 1:1 correspondence by matching collections of objects to their representations. We have been developing their understanding of the concept of cardinality – that the last number in the count tells us ‘how many’ things there are all together – and applied this to count more abstract things, such as claps and jumps.
Everything else…
Have a lovely weekend.
