Year 6 Residential
Every year we take our Year 6 children on a residential trip to How Stean Gorge in the Yorkshire Dales for 3 days and 2 nights. How Stean Gorge is a wonderful venue: all the activities are on or near to the site, nestled in the beautiful upper Nidderdale.
In 2025, children in 6D will go on Monday 30th June and return on Wednesday 2nd July, and children in 6J will go on Wednesday 2nd July and return on Friday 4th July. Transport will be provided in the school minibuses. Staffing will be confirmed nearer the time.
A meeting for parents giving further information about the trip will be held nearer the time along with all the paperwork that will need to be completed. Until then, you can click here to see our expected itinerary and here for a look at the expected activities we will doing: abseiling, via ferrata, caving and gorge scrambling.
Until 2023, we have camped in big 10-person tents; now, we have upgraded and use the wonderful on-site lodges. These lodges will have 10-ish children (single sex) in each with bunk beds. We eat in the on-site restaurant. (Please note: we won’t be using wood burners or the hot tubs!)
Children bring a packed lunch on the day of departure but all other meals are supplied by How Stean. In previous years, meals have consisted of a choice of cereals, toast or a bacon/egg sandwich for breakfast, a choice of sandwiches, crisps, fruit and biscuit for lunch, and pasta bolognese with garlic bread for day 1 evening meal, and sausage, chips and veg for the day 2 evening meal. Children will also be offered hot chocolate/juice and biscuits mid-evening. Fruit is also available throughout the day. Meals for 2025 will be confirmed nearer the time.

Copies of the risk assessments for this trip will be available nearer the time by emailing Rachel Hawkhead at office@farsleyfarfield.org.uk.
The cost for the residential in 2025 is expected to be £200 (subsidised by the PTA). This is cheaper than comparable residentials. There is no charge for transport as we use our minibuses.
We hope that everyone will be attending the residential as it is an important part of our PE and geography curricula. Spending time away from family, and being responsible for themselves, is also an important part of growing up.
