Phonics

Our tricky word this week is ‘they’. Can your child say this word in a sentence? Can they write this word?

We have also learnt the phonemes/ graphemes ‘th‘ and ‘ng‘. Can you think of words that have ‘th‘ and ‘ng‘ in? The th digraph has two sounds. It can be a hard th like ‘this’ and ‘that’ or soft th like ‘bath‘ or ‘thumb’.

Maths

The children have enjoyed investigating mass this week. They have learnt how to use scales and had fun weighing lots of objects. They have been using the language – heavy and light. The human balance scales were lots of fun!

Reading Buddies

RP enjoyed meeting their Reading Buddies from Year 4. They had fun getting to know each other and sharing books. We look forward to seeing them again next half term!

Pancake Fun!

Shrove Tuesday is on Tuesday 13th February, so we thought we would find out about it this week. We learnt about why some families celebrate Shrove Tuesday. We’ve had so much fun making our own delicious pancakes. We used weighing scales and followed instructions on how to make them. We also chose our own toppings and made a class tally chart for our favourite pancake topping. We enjoyed listening to pancake stories too!

Chinese New Year

We have enjoyed learning about the Chinese New Year. We acted out the story about how the years are named after different animals, we had fun doing some lion dancing and playing the instruments and made lanterns.
