Farsley Farfield Primary School

Headteacher blog 19th April 2024

It was great to have the school back together on Monday although, of course, there was a great sadness shared amongst staff and the wider school community after the tragic news in the holidays.

The school quickly got back into gear and Year 3 braved the weather for two successful trips to Harlow Carr Gardens in Harrogate. We have had lots of sporting events: an inclusive Y2 SEND event at Pudsey Leisure Centre, a Y4 football event at Priesthorpe and two U11 football games, with the boys battling for the Leeds West title place – a last-gasp 4-5 defeat on Tuesday denting our challenge after a brilliant game. I was really proud of the way the boys played the game.

Tuesday was the national offer day for Reception 2024. We are looking like we will be nearly full: currently 57/60. Many schools have fared much worse – there simply aren’t the numbers of young children than there were ten years ago when school places expanded. September 2027 looks like it will be exceptionally low across this area.

Sadly, we have had to postpone the PTA Colour Run planned for next Saturday due to the conditions of the grounds. We should be enjoying the fields so much more at this time of the year, but the rain we have had over the past 6 months has been unprecedented. We are managing to get some areas of grass cut but others are still just squelchy. We are desperate for a prolonged period of warmer, dry weather.
