Farsley Farfield Primary School

Year 1 – 03.05.24

Phonics

We are revisiting the phase 3, phase 4 and phase 5 phonemes/graphemes. The children have read and spelt words with different phonemes/graphemes. They have also written independent sentences. This week we have revised the tricky words ‘would’ and ‘could’.

Maths

During our maths sessions, the children have looked at arrays and doubles. They have learnt that rows go across and columns go up and down.

English

This week we continued to look at traditional tales. We read the story ‘The Three Billy Goats Gruff’. For our writing task, the children were asked to plan and write their own version of the story, introducing three new characters crossing the bridge and a character underneath the bridge. We will continue with our stories next week! We also had fun acting out the story.

Design Technology

On Wednesday we received a letter from the Billy Goats Gruff! They challenged us to create a bridge that would hold their weight. The children found this challenge exciting and could not wait to start.

Science

This week we continued to look at plants in more detail. We have looked at and labelled the different parts of a plant.

Computing

In computing we have started a new Purple Mash unit on animated stories. This week the children have focused on adding images and text. It is set as a 2do on Purple Mash if your child wants to continue with their story at home.

Have a lovely bank holiday weekend,
