Roman purses!

Just like that, it’s the end of the first half of summer term! This term has been full of exciting learning including sewing our first Roman-inspired purses and pouches, writing about eruptions, learning more about different shapes, exploring the reasons behind the Roman invasion, and, of course, beginning to enjoy the weather a little more!

Maths

This week, we started a new unit focusing on shapes. The children have enjoyed instructing each other using quarter, half, and full turns clockwise and anticlockwise to check their understanding. They have also been learning more about the different angles and watching for any they can spot in the classroom. We will continue with this after half term. 3SB have learned more about different turns and will be moving onto angles after half term.

English

After watching The Black Hat, the children wrote a description of what was found underneath the hat and how the magical creatures escaped and travelled using prepositions and adjectives. Here are some pictures of 3B with their own hats full of magic!

DT

This week, we practised the overstitch and running stitch before sewing Roman purses and pouches. It was a challenging task and required a lot of focus and perseverance, and we are so proud of them – some were working until the very last minute! After the half term, we will be evaluating our designs.

RE

This term, Year 3 has been learning about inspirational leaders in different faiths and discussing significant aspects of being a good leader. 3B has been learning about the importance of Moses and how the Israelites felt when reaching the Red Sea. 3SB reflected on the significant leaders and thought about who inspires them.

Science

Last week, we learned how water is transported throughout a plant and used this information to analyse different leaves. Children searched our fields for various leaves and identified the midrib, veins, and petiole.

Music

Here are the performances of ‘The Whole Wide World’. We hope you enjoy them!

Well done to our special mentions this week – Alfie, Yasmine, Oliver, Xavier, Amelia and Theo!

Well done to 3SB for winning the reading trophy for the week and for having the best overall percentage for the term!

Dates for your diary

We will be visiting the Royal Armouries in the first week back after half term. We aim to leave just after 9am and be back before the end of the school day.
Tuesday 4th June – 3B
Thursday 6th June – 3SB

A gentle reminder to please add your payment for the trip through parent pay, which has been set up.
Have a lovely half-term. We look forward to welcoming the children back for their final half-term in Year 3!
