Farsley Farfield Primary School

This week in Year 3!

The children have had another super week in Year 3, working hard and enjoying the sunshine too! On Thursday, we completed our reading assessments and we are really proud of the children’s efforts and progress. Next week we will be completing our maths assessments and we are sure the children will do brilliantly with those too!

Maths

In maths this week we began our unit on time. We learnt the Roman numerals up to 12 and practised telling the time to the nearest 5 minutes, using the words past and to, e.g. Ten past two or twenty-five to seven.

English

In English, we looked at the features of non-chronological reports and have started planning our own non-chronological reports comparing Mesopotamian Blue cats to street cats! We had to use our class text (Varjak Paw) to find information to help us.

P.E

In cricket, we practised our batting skills and began to think about how to be successful when fielding.

In athletics, 3S worked on their running skills, considering when they needed to build power and when they needed to slow down, for example when going round corners.

In Zumba, the children followed routines, with Dance Monkey being a particular favourite! In the dance element, the children were working on adding some movements in canon to their routines.

Science Superstars!

A reminder that we will be holding our science superstars auditions next Friday. Children who would like to take part will need to bring all their resources to school with them on the day. We hope to see lots of children entering the competition and can’t wait to see what everyone chooses to do!

D.T

Our next D.T project is making Roman shields! We would be grateful for any large sheets of cardboard you might have at home to be brought in next week. Also any large yogurt pots (or similar) for making the boss in the centre of the shield. Thank you!

Well done to our special mentions this week: Archie, Isaac W, Dahlia, Zayn and Amaya!

Wishing you all a lovely, sunny weekend!
