Reception News – 19.7.24

We can’t believe that this is the last Reception blog post! We have had a great year and have enjoyed teaching all the children. Thank you for all your lovely messages, cards and gifts.

Phonics

This week we have been practising forming capital letters. The children have enjoyed singing along to the alphabet song below. Most children have taken a book from the corridor home for the holidays. Please keep reading at home!

Maths

We have been looking at positional language and words we can use to say where things are. We had a lot of fun trying to work out where the photo was taken – was it behind? Above? Next to?

Understanding the World – Maps

We were excited to read a pirate story called The Treasure of Pirate Frank. At the back of the book was a letter and Pirate Frank needed our help. She had lost her treasure map, we hunted high and low and found it in our cloakroom. We followed the map using the features on the map to find our way. We used mathematical language to say where we were in each place. The best bit – finding the treasure!! Super map reading skills.

Visiting the Year 1 classrooms

The children enjoyed spending time in their new classrooms.

RGK Reading Buddies

We have had a lovely time reading with our reading buddies. We shared a story together before enjoying playing with our friends.

Secret readers

RP have enjoyed a visit from the last secret readers this week! Thank you to all of the adults who have joined in this year.

Have a great summer holiday and good luck in Year 1.
