Year 6 13.9.24
Well Done
The children have been resilient and gave their best efforts to their assessments this week. We use these as a benchmark and to identify any gaps in learning we need to cover over the year. We are proud of the way Year 6 have approached this week.
English
We are really proud of the work the children have done on their poems inspired by Robert Mcfarlane. They have taken great care to choose excellent vocabulary and this week illustrated their final, published versions.
Here is some of the work we have produced
Also in English this week we began looking at Kensuke’s Kingdom which is our class text for this half term. What would you do if you were offered a round-the-world trip? Leave family and friends behind for a life of adventure? This was the basis of our discussion as we read chapter one of the story and met Michael and his family who have decided to set sail around the world. Some of the children were very keen to advise Michael to start a new, exciting life while others felt the perils of the open sea meant that Michael should stay at home. We will continue with the work on Kensuke next week!
Geography
This week the children looked at a very strange map and learned about the tectonic plates that cover the Earth. We talked about a new geographical word: lithosphere and the layers of the Earth. Did you know scientists dug for over 25 years to create the Kola Superdeep Borehole and didn’t manage to break through the Earth’s crust?
What if we could dig through the Earth?
