Year 1 – 20.09.24
Phonics
In phonics this week we have been revising the phonemes y, z, zz, qu and ch. We have also practised reading and spelling the tricky words ‘to’ and ‘go’.
English
In English we have been writing sentences about ourselves. The children have been trying hard to use capital letters, finger spaces and full stops in their writing.
We have started our handwriting lessons and practised the straight ladder letters i, l and t.
Maths
This week we have been counting and representing numbers to 10. The children have been fantastic at representing numbers to 10 on a ten frame.
PSHE
In PSHE we have been looking at feelings. We spoke about different emotions and how these feel in our body.
History
We enjoyed the story ‘Once There Were Giants’. We spoke about how we are born as babies and then grow into toddlers, children, teenagers and adults. We learnt what a timeline is and placed pictures of familiar adults on to one.
Music
In music we have started our unit on ‘My Musical Heartbeat’. This week we listened to different songs and discussed what we liked and disliked about the music. We worked hard to find the pulse of the music and chose a song to learn. We will post our final performances later this half term!
PE
In PE we have continued our work on functional skills and 1T had dance. We were very impressed with how far the children could jump with two feet.
Spelling
Your child will have brought home a red spelling book today. There are some spellings for your child to practise at home. This homework is due on Tuesday 1st October. There will not be a spelling test.
Passwords
Your child has access to Mathletics, Purple Mash and Fast Phonics. The usernames and passwords for these websites are stuck in the back of your child’s reading record.
Have a lovely weekend,
The Year 1 Team
