Head Teacher’s blog 11th October 2024
We welcomed Years 1-6 together and lots of parents and carers to our Harvest Festival this morning. Thank you to everyone for their donations for St George’s Crypt. It was great to have Elea Derry from The Oak Church with us this morning giving us a Christian perspective on harvest. The children sang well; as well as old favourites such as Paint Box (below), I especially enjoyed an ‘epic’ new song called ‘I am the Earth’. It was good to see lots of parents helping themselves to Farfield Farm produce at the end: lots of apple crumbles tonight!
As part of Harvest Festival we reflected on the need for our farm to have its soil replenished: adding compost and manure to provide more nutrients for the plants. We found a very old film – from 2007 – that showed the beginnings of our school farm. It was really interesting to see old colleagues, former pupils that will now be adults and the school grounds in the background with newly-planted trees just sticks in the ground. Our school is certainly more green nearly 20 years later. I look just the same!
