Another great week in Year 5 and more photos from Greek Day
Hi all,
We have had another great week, working hard in Year 5.
In Maths we have been completing column subtraction and addition. The children have been set some column subtractions to complete for homework. Please ensure that you support them with this to ensure that they are fluent in completing these calculations. Many children started the week making errors but I think everyone has now remembered how to use column subtraction properly.
In English we have been writing newpaper reports, based on the Odyssey by Homer and from Ancient Greece.

THE OLDEN DAYS
ARE THE MEN
REPLACEABLE?
Shaheer S.
A year ago, the brave hero of Ithica, Odysseus, came across a narrow channel where there lived a pair of massive monsters. One, Scylla, a six-headed sea monster who ate sailors that passed. The other, Charybdis, A monster in the form of a whirlpool that sucked down whole boats! However, Odysseus couldn’t risk losing himself and his crew so with agonizing pain, he sacraficed 6 men to Scylla and snuck past quickly in the boat.
Scylla
The Sacrifice
Odysseus threw the men into the water, the last words of Teleramichas were, “The water is so cold, it is as cold as death, I regret th- AAAAAaAAAAaaaaAH!!!! NOOOooOOoooOOOOO!!!!!” They were taken into the cave on the side of a cliff where Scylla lived. One eye witness stated that the blood curdling screams were so loud that even Zeus was blocking his ears! Details have emerged that whilst Scylla was killing the men, the rest of Odysseus’ crew snuck past in the boats.
The escape
Cheers of jubilation were heard when they sailed past sneakily after getting past Scylla however some people were very sad after losing their friends.
