Mould!

Year 6 were thrilled to come back to class after their half term and discover the results of their mould experiment. Before the holidays, children designed an investigation to discover where the mouldiest place in the school was. In pairs and small groups, they wiped a piece of bread in their chosen location, then sealed the bag and waited…

Imagine our surprise when we discovered that most of the bread was not very mouldy (except for quite an incredible slice in 6D). We hypothesised that this was because Mr Harris had switched the heating off over half term and so the mould wasn’t as warm as it would like to be. We have chosen to leave the disgusting samples alone for a further week to see whether we grow any more results.

Maths

We have begun our unit on fractions this week and the children are beginning to build confidence when ordering and comparing them. We discovered that if we need to compare fractions, we need to make either the numerator or the denominator the same.

Here is a video which might help to refresh your memory:

Homework

We have sent home the SATS revision guides this week. Homework will be set from these books every week and noted here on the blog. The red and purple books are to support children to complete their work if they need a refresher. This week’s homework is as follows:

Maths – Pages 2,3 and 4 in the white booklet.

English – Page 42 in the white booklet.

Spelling shed x 10 games

Extreme Reading x 5 weekly.

Have a lovely weekend.
