This weeks Year 5 Blog
In Science, both Year 5 classes investigated the phases of the moon. The class sat around a football painted half black, half white to represent the lit and unlit side of the moon. They then drew what they could see and identified if they were looking at a full, new, crescent or gibbous moon. They also worked out if the moon was waxing or waning.
Maths
In Maths we have been investigating prime numbers, square numbers and cube numbers. Please ask your child if they can list the first 10 of each! Homework has been set on square numbers.
English
In English we have started reading ‘Curiosity’ and information book about a Mars rover. The children have been learning and practising the key features of an explanation text. So far we have covered causal conjunctions, technical words, present tense, passive voice and commas in lists.
Rehersals have begun for the Christmas play. Please ensure that your child learns their lines. They should now all have their own script. We will be providing most of the costumes unless you have ideas and items at home already. If so please let us know by email. We may send out a request begging for props. Please keep an eye on the blog for information like this.
Many thanks,
The Year 5 team.
