A cold week

The week started cold and got colder. Luckily, we are a hardy bunch and so relished the snow and ice.

Science

On Thursday, 5B took advantage of the clear sky to investigate how shadows change as the sun moves across the sky. To do this, we traced the shadows then measured the angles using a compass and recorded their lengths throughout the day. By 3pm, this gave us enough data to come to a conclusion about what was happening.

Finally, the class plotted their results on to a spreadsheet and created a line graph as a visual representation.

PE

In PE, the bouldering group at The Depot have excelled themselves with some great climbing skills. Even after just three weeks, the progress has be notable. Every week, each child is climbing higher or completeing more complex routes. Below are a small selection of photos, but click here for the full gallery.

Maths

We have now moved on to fractions in maths lessons and this week have looked at equivalent fractions and how to find them.

This video shows what we have been doing

Ali Baba

The rehearsals for the Chrismas performance are very encouraging. Children are still learning their lines but are become a lot more confident in their delivery and we are now starting to have fun practising the dances that accompany the songs. We hope to move to script free scenes next week so if your child has lines, please help them by performing the parts they are in with them.

Have a great weekend.

Mr Beevers, Mrs Kroon, Ms Howells and the Year 5 team.

P.S. The reading scores have been amazing over the past few weeks. Thank you for listening to your child and filling in their Reading Record books.
