Awesome Actors
Good afternoon parents and carers,
Year 5 have been busy rehearsing this week and we are so impressed by the acting, singing and dancing talent this year. I bet you are looking forward to seeing the show. We have asked the children to try and go without their scripts next week so please could they have one more push to learn lines this weekend.
We have made a spread sheet of what clothes we would like the children to bring. We are making /finding a lot of the outfits at school but would like to ask the children to bring the basics in a named plastic bag. (We can stick a label on it at school if necessary.) This way we can add any extra props and bits into this bag. Click here to view the spreadsheet. Please dont hesitate to contact us if there is a problem.
The children have continued to work hard in other subjects and have written some fantastic explanation texts about a Mars Rover. Here are two fantastic paragraphs from Teddy and Sophie in 5KH.
Teddy
Exploring and collecting data from Mars
Now Runner is ready to start, it needs to begin collecting data. This is how it does it. Runner has a drill which is made of titanium and can break almost any rock. As well as being able to break rocks, the drill can also move up and down Runner’s body to help reach any surface. The robotic arm, which can also brush, picks up objects and puts them in a hole in its body where its onboard laboratory and computer, which is named Adventure, examines it and sends anything helpful or new back to NASA.
Sophie
Landing on Mars
After 6 months of traveling, Sweet Strawberry enters Mars’ atmosphere. Therefore, the nose cone starts getting hot,at 1900C. As a result, the nose cone detaches so that the rover does not overheat. The parachute deploys at an altitude of 2000 meters and 2 minutes after the nose cone has detached . Next, the backshell detaches, which has renegade thrusters, that pushes the rover up off the ground, causing it to slow down as it reaches the surface. Finally, the sky crane lowers it down to the ground.
Well done to you two and everyone in Year 5!
In Maths we have been working on understanding equivalent fractions.
We have been working hard to learn the Year 3 4 spelling list. Well done to Zac and Ikjot who won the Year 3/4 Spellathon and Umar, who won the Year 5/6 word Spellathon in 5KH. We are currently testing the children on their Year 3/4 spelling words and hope for many of them to move onto the Year 5/6 ones soon. The list of words should be in your chiild’s homework book and it is really important that they know these.
We hope you all have a fantastic weekend and look forward to seeing the children refreshed and ready to go on Monday,
Many thanks,
The Year 5 team.
