Phonics

This week we have learnt the graphemes / phonemes for ar, or, oo like in moon and oo like in book. Our tricky word is you.

Reading

It is so important to keep supporting your child with their reading. The expectation is that you should be hearing your child read at least 3 times a week. This could be looking at the flashcards, tricky word flashcards, playing word games, Fast Phonics and reading books. Thank you for all your support.

Maths

This week we have been using our subitising skills (seeing the quantity without counting) to help our class puppet Gertrude learn this skill. We looked carefully at arrangements of dots and then closed our eyes to visualise and explain what we saw. We have represented quantities in different ways and played a range of games to help match numerals to quantities.

RE

This week we have discussed “Why do we need rules?” and “What makes us happy and sad in our classroom?” The children thought of some classroom rules and then drew happy faces to display around our classroom rules. The children enjoyed sharing their homework. They all sound like they are very helpful at home. Well done!

Expressive Arts and Design

In our creative areas the children use PVA glue and glue sticks to fix boxes, tubes and paper together. This term we have introduced masking tape. We have shown the children how they can tear the tape and colour over it. We have been busy making space-related box models! Please feel free to send in any unwanted boxes (not toilet rolls) as we use a lot!

Going into Space!

We have been reading this non-fiction book this week. We have shown the children how to use a content page. The children have enjoyed learning lots of facts about space.

Everything Else…

Reception Bedtime Story Evening

As part of our World Book Day celebrations, we are having a special Reception Bedtime Story evening in our classrooms on Wednesday 5th March. It will start at 6pm and finish at 6.45pm. More details will be sent home soon.

Library Books

Just a polite reminder to please bring library books back every week. RP visit the library every Thursday and RGK go on a Friday.

Family Learning Group

Mrs Myers has lots of spaces left at her session on a Thursday morning. This term they are having fun with numbers. The children need to be accompanied by an adult – this can be any family member and grandparents are very welcome!

Have a great weekend.
