Schools Yorkshire Tour 2018

This morning 10 children took part in the Schools Yorkshire Tour 2018 Cycling Relay.

The Schools Yorkshire Tour is a large scale cycle event for primary, secondary and special schools in Yorkshire developed to encourage more young people to take up cycling, by promoting cycling as a fun and ‘cool’ method of transport. Its aim is to increase the number of pupils cycling safely to school, promote an active lifestyle whilst also improving air quality and reducing congestion outside schools.

Children and young people from over 160 schools across Yorkshire will have taken part in this cycling relay which started on 5th June 2018 to celebrate national Bike Week. The baton will have travelled 640 km (400 miles) from the start – in Pickering North Yorkshire – to its final destination in Millennium Square Leeds on Tuesday 3rd July 2018.

The baton will have been passed by school children and young people from school to school and Local Authority to Local Authority along a pre-planned route across Yorkshire.

The event started in North Yorkshire and has passed through, East Riding, York, Doncaster, Rotherham, Sheffield, Barnsley, Wakefield, Kirklees, Bradford, and Calderdale before ultimately finishing in Millennium Square Leeds with a celebration event to be held in the Civic Hall.

Today, we received the baton from Pudsey Southroyd School and then cycled to Farsley Springbank Primary School to pass the baton on to them. Due to the fact that this was a relatively short part of the relay, we joined Springbank and extended our ride to Stanningley at which point we stopped and cycled back to school.
