A busy week in Nursery
We have had such a busy week and the last one before the half term holiday.
Chinese New Year
Tomorrow is the Lunar New Year when the Chinese people celebrate their new year. This is the year of the dragon and the Nursery children have been learning all about how the years were named after animals and how families celebrate. There are so many similarities between how this festival is celebrated and how other families celebrate Christmas, Eid or Diwali! Best clothes are worn, gifts are exchanged and delicious food is eaten. The colours red and gold are important colours so the children have been making red lanterns and painting with red and yellow. We also watched dragon dances.
Ice balloons
Before we knew it was going to snow this week we prepared some ice balloons for the children to experience. They used some very good language when describing the ice. Cold, slippery, frozen, wet, heavy and many more exciting words were used.
Word Study
This week we were talking about being brave if you fall or get hurt so we found some pictures which helped to explain the meaning of the word. Please can you use this word at home to reinforce the understanding.
Reading Buddies
Last week one of our Year 3 reading buddy classes visited to share books and on Monday the other Year 3 class came to read to the youngest children. Everyone enjoyed their time and this will be repeated several times throughout the year.
I am the music man!
The children have enjoyed learning to play different instruments and performing in front of their friends. They even had a musical marching band around the nursery…
Number 1
In Maths we have been representing the number 1. The children drew 1 horizontal line, 1 vertical line, 1 circle, 1 smiley face and the numeral 1. Have a look around your house and when you are out and about for the numeral 1.
Lots of other fun!
Have a lovely half term week from the Nursery team
