A busy week in Year 1
Phonics
This week we have practised writing the days of the week. We have also continued to revise our phase 4 and 5 sounds and tricky words. Please practice spelling the tricky words in your spelling book too.
English
The children have continued to enjoy the story of ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch’ and have had fun acting it out.
We received another letter from Mr Grinling asking for our help to design him a basket that would keep those pesky seagulls away from his lunch! The children had some amazing ideas including mustard blasters, disappearing locks and robot guards.
Some of the children also wanted to taste mustard. They can now understand why the seagulls hated the mustard sandwiches so much!
Maths
In Maths we have learnt to recognise and count coins and notes. We have used our previous skills of counting in 2s, 5s and 10s to help us count a range of coins.
PSHE
In PSHE we continued to look at money. We discussed why we need to keep money safe and looked at places where we can store money. We then decided if it was a safe or unsafe place to keep it.
Art
We have looked at a range of lighthouse drawings and photos this week. We have enjoyed creating our own lighthouse collages, drawings and paintings.
History
In history we continued with our work on Grace Darling. We discussed why Grace did what she did and why her actions were so special. We looked at a series of statements and grouped them into importance.
Have a lovely weekend,
The Year 1 Team
