A Snowy Beginning!
What a strange first week back! The snow and ice have certainly kept things interesting but despite the rather tricky conditions of the week, the children have risen to the occasion and tried their best!
English
In our English lessons this week, we have been focusing on developing our descriptive writing skills. After looking at some examples of fictional maps, the children had a go at designing their own – coming up with a range of fantastic ideas of things to include on their islands. We then selected a section of the island to really focus in on, sketching out what would be seen if you were actually standing there. The children also came up with some great expanded noun phrases to describe the features that they had included.
Once all this was done, the children were tasked with writing a descriptive paragraph of their island and (after some discussion about what kinds of grammatical techniques they could include) did just that! There were some really lovely vocabulary choices being made, with some children even including similies and personifcation to bring their writing to life.
Maths
In our maths lessons, we have returned to multiplication and division. Our main focus this week was on factors and factor pairs – understanding what they are and how we can identify the factors of a given number by working systematically. We also used factor bugs to represent all of the factors clearly. This week’s maths homework is also based on finding factors so the video below may be of use!
General Notices
This week, both maths and spelling homework has been sent out, which is due on Wednesday 15th January. If the children have any issues completing it, they are more than welcome to speak to their teachers about it.
We hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
Miss Levett, Mrs Sykes and Mrs Newsome
