Farsley Farfield Primary School

A sporty week

It has been a busy week, both in and out of class.

On Tuesday Mr Hemming took a group of girls to a friendly football tournament. The activity was designed to be a taster session to introduce participants with little experience to competitive matches. Each game lasted 4 minutes but that gave us plenty of time to score quite a few goals.

On Thursday, Mr Beevers took a team of Year 5 and 6 girls to a competitive tournament at Bodington Football Hub. The girls played really well, winning two games in the first round of matches and therefore finishing second in their league. The afternoon games were against schools of a similar standard, and although we created plenty of chances, we just managed to lose each game by one goal.

Another tournament is taking place in a couple of weeks and this will include several Year 5 girls. The future of girls’ football at Farsley Farfield is looking good.

This week, we have had cycling coaches in school, taking children out to do their Bikability training. The weather hasn’t been the kindest but everyone has come back with improved skills and smiles. Cycling will be an activity at the residential in the spring and so any practise children can get between now and then will only benefit their experience.

In Maths, the children have been looking at fractions. Some of the concepts are a bit tricky, such as converting improper fractions to mixed numbers. If your child needs some help with this, the video below will aid their understanding.

Monday and Friday are now the Christmas play practice days. The children are starting to become more confident in their roles and are working hard to show their acting abilities. The big day is approaching quickly, so if your child has lines, helping them learn them will be a great assistance.

In a morning, we are implimenting a new system whereby the children line up in their classes and wait for their teacher to bring them in. This is due to the cloakroom seeming to be very busy and noisy all of a sudden. Hopefully, it will make things calmer and quicker but if you have any feedback, positive or negative, please let us know.

Have a great weekend

Mr Beevers, Mr Hemming, Mrs Kroon, Ms Howells
