A ‘Super’ Week- 20.10.23
English
This week in English we have written a review of the story Supertato. Children used the answers they rehearsed to record their views.
We then moved on to describing the character ‘Supertato’. Children developed vocabulary to describe his personality and what he looks like. We then learned how to write expanded noun phrases using two adjectives separated with a comma e.g sparkly, red boots or long, wavy cape.
We will continue our work on describing characters next week when we write about our own super veggie or veggie villain!
Spelling
This week we have been investigating the different ways to spell the or sound. We actually found 10 different ways!
Please have a look at words with this spelling in over the weekend particularly the homophones: saw/sore, paw/poor and the Y2 common exception words: door, poor, floor.
Maths
Thank you to those children who have completed their maths homework from last week. We have been using and applying number bonds in our maths lessons. Remember, the Mathletics app can be downloaded onto phones and devices easily. Passwords were sent home a few weeks ago but please ask if you need these again.
In maths this week we have been using related facts to derive other facts. The children are starting to apply these. For example, if we know 3 + 4 = 7, we know 30 + 40 = 70.
We also found our number bonds to 100 using the same idea. If 2 + 8 = 10 then 20 + 80 = 100.
When adding and subtracting ones, we noticed that we could work out 32 + 4 = 36 because we already knew that 2 + 4 = 6. Please encourage your child to use the facts they already know to help them.
Science
This week in science we reviewed our learning about keeping Healthy. Children are now experts at keeping clean, healthy eating and keeping fit!
