Farsley Farfield Primary School

A Walk into the Past

Good evening. The end of the half term is fast approaching and this week has been as busy as ever.

Rehearsals have been taking place again and we have been very impressed with the way everyone has learned their lines. We have been encouraging the actors to enjoy the spotlight and ensure their delivery is loud and clear so that the audience can hear the numerous jokes. Next week, we will be having a dress rehearsal in front of an audience of younger children and those in the choir who are not in the first performance.

History

On Thursday, both classes walked down to Farsley centre to look at the listed buildings that are there. Luckily, the weather was fine for 5KH. 5B just beat the deluge by speed marching up Farfield Avenue! While there, we looked at the buildings around the church,  including the nearby Farsley National Schools building, then walked down to Sunnybank Mills to find out more about its history. Information plaques on the walls give details of what individual buildings were used for and have example weaves that can be used for brass rubbing.

Photos from 5KH’s walk can be found be clicking here.

If you wish to find out more about the significant places in Farsley and the local area, the https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/map-search/ website is a great place to start.

Maths

This week, we have continued to look at fractions. We have been learning how to compare and order fractions, using what we have learned about equivalent fractions. We then moved on to adding fractions with different denominators. This involves applying a lot of knowledge and can be tricky. If your child needs help, the video here is useful.

We are delighted to say that the Extreme Reading trophy is well and truly at home in Year 5. 5KH won with 97% last week and this week 96% was enough to win it for 5B. Thank you for all your efforts.

A reminder that next Tuesday is Movie night. Tickets are still available.

Have a great weekend.

Mr Beevers, Mrs Kroon and the Year 5 team.
