Farsley Farfield Primary School

A wonderful trip to Harlow Carr!

Year 3 had a very exciting start to the new term with their trips to Harlow Carr. 3SB on Tuesday were a little bit luckier with the weather than 3B, who had some wind, rain and even hailstones to contend with. They did not let this stop their fun though, and both classes had a great time and did Farfield proud.

First, we took part in a workshop to learn all about seeds and different methods of seed dispersal. The children examined some interesting seeds from all around the world, trying to decide whether the seeds were spread by wind, animals, water, air or explosion!

Then, we went out into the gardens, studying the plants we could see and completing a winter walk.

The final part of the workshop was doing some planting of our own. We all planted rocket, and the children have taken their plants home with them. The plants should ideally be kept indoors for a little bit longer, out of direct sunlight. Soon, the plants will need to be re-potted and might even be able to go outside. Don’t forget to water them regularly!

After a break for some lunch, both classes then enjoyed some time in the play areas.

We also managed some group snaps!

Both classes had an excellent day, and this trip will really enrich our science topic about plants this term. Thank you to our parent helpers!

In other news this week, we have started our new class text, Escape from Pompeii by Christina Balit, linked to our history topic, The Romans. The children have shown lots of enthusiasm in these lessons, and have already done some fantastic writing and shared lots of facts!

In maths we have continued to learn about mass, comparing masses using grams and kilograms and adding and subtracting masses. We will be moving onto capacity next week.

In P.E the children are taking part in lots of exciting activities, including tennis, athletics, cricket, zumba and bouldering. We were really impressed with the children’s hard work and positive attitudes in P.E this week.

Special mentions this week went to Ollie, Meela, Beatrice, Ayaan A and Murphie.

3SB were very excited to get their best Extreme Reading score of the year so far: 84%. Keep up the good work everyone!

Wishing you all a lovely weekend.
