An Epic Week
Another week and we are well into the first half term. The lovely weather has allowed the children to enjoy their play and lunchtimes and has meant that our first hour of PE can take place outside. During the second hour, one group travels the short distance to The Depot where they practice their bouldering skills. Even after two weeks, we can see the confidence and skills building, with all the children challenging themselves.
English
This week, the children have been listening to and summarising a simplified version of the Homer’s epic poem The Odyssey. Writing a precis is a tricky task, especially as we try to encourage the children to add adjectives, adverbs and conjunctions to extend their writing. Taking these out goes against their nature now. Next week, we will be discussing how to convert their notes into a newspaper artical. If you want to read our version of The Odyssey , click here. Who’d volunteer to be in Odysseus’s crew after reading this?
Maths
Our maths this week has continued with place value work. We have been looking at numbers up to 1,000,000, including how to partition them, find 10, 100, 1000 more or less and where the numbers come on a number line.
RSE
Next week will be a week of RSE. Our mornings have been put aside to cover this subject, with Maths and English taking place in the afternoon (PE as normal on Monday). You will have had an email from Mr Harris on Wednesday giving details and links to the policy and objectives. Please look for that and follow the link for information. If you have any questions, please email or talk to your child’s teacher.
Have a lovely weekend.
