Another busy week
Maths
In maths, we have begun our new unit of learning on addition and subtraction. We have used place value grids and counters to make different numbers and identify the other columns that change depending on whether these involve 1s, 10s, or 100s. Next week, we will continue to explore this. Year 3 were very excited this week, with most Chromebooks going out! Children can use TT Rockstar to practise their recall of multiplication facts.
English
This week, we learnt more about Om’s journey into the cave and used this to write a descriptive passage using past tense and fronted adverbials. Some of the caves involved entwined passageways and silky, silvery cobwebs sitting in the corners of the dark cave. 3SB enjoyed sequencing the story this week and created a storyboard to retell the story drawing on key points.
P.E
In skipping this week, children have been practising the hop & swap and the side swing. During the athletics session, 3B practised using the javelin and frisbee and comparing the distance. 3SB enjoyed using apparatus to make symmetrical and asymmetrical balances.
History
This week, we learned more about the Neolithic period and the changes farming brought during the Stone Age. Children used their inference skills to compare images and discussed significant changes and what this meant for civilisation.
R.E
3SB recapped the story of Exodus and discussed the importance of Passover. They enjoyed trying out different foods representing the various aspects of the story that led to Moses freeing the Hebrews in Egypt.
A little reminder that Year 3 will be having their Stone Age Day on Thursday 19th October. Some children have also been chosen to take part in a cheer dance event in the afternoon on the same day. Those children will receive a letter next week.
Well done to our special mentions this week – Ayla, Noah, Beatrice and Avraj!
As a school, we have a loyalty account with Truman Books. If you, your family members, or your children purchase any books from Truman Books and mention Farsley Farfield Primary School, we will accrue points to spend on lovely new books for school. They also have lots of children’s events planned for this year’s Farsley Literature Festival, details of which can be found at www.farsleylit.co.uk.
Have a lovely weekend.
