Another fantastic week in Year 5
Hi all,
We have had another busy week in year 5.
Maths
In Maths we have finished working on place value, completing this topic with lessons on rounding. Homework on rounding to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000 has been set.
English
In English we have finished reading the Odyssey and have now begun work on writing a newspaper report about it. Homework has been set on learning either the Year 3/4 or 5/6 spellings depending on how many spelling your child knows. Please ensure that your child practices these. There is also a personal list in their homework books with spellings highlighed that they need to learn.
Science
In Science we had lots of fun scaling the solar system. We spaced out the planets on a scale of 1:20,000,000km on some toilet role. We learnt that the first 4 planets up to Mars are much closer than the outer planets in our solar system. We learnt that the outer planets are mainly made of gas and that Jupiter is the largets planet. We also found out how massive the sun is in comparison to the other planets.
We have a busy few weeks coming up.
Some children are going to be participating in a Fun Run and an Active event at the Brownlea Centre.
We have Greek Day on Tuesday, where we have many fun activities planned. Here is the letter about Greek Day attached:
