Do you believe in magic?
English
This week, we have been writing persuasive adverts for the circus. The children loved acting out their ideas in small groups after recapping key features, thinking of different ways to engage their audience, and performing them to their peers before writing their adverts, which included rhetorical questions and expanded noun phrases.
We have continued to read Leon and the Place Between and have been introduced to the mysterious magician Abdul Kazam! Leon has been chosen to step into a box, and the children enjoyed predicting what might happen next.
Maths
This week, we have continued learning about addition and subtraction and have worked hard on our exchanges. 3CW have subtracted numbers across 100 using the formal method, and 3B have enjoyed learning more about estimating and discussing how this can be useful in real life. Children estimated different calculations and then went onto work out the actual calculation and considered how close their estimate was. Maths homework this week is consolidating this learning.
Science
This term, our science unit is all about light and dark, and Year 3 loved participating in an experiment that investigated how light travels. Children used boxes, made holes in different places, and used torches to try and identify various objects. They realised they couldn’t see objects in areas where the light wasn’t travelling, which led to a brilliant conversation about how they think light travels!
Geography
This week, we enjoyed learning about mountain features, and the children enjoyed spotting different features on several mountains. We ended our lesson by looking at the seven summits. Some of the children then researched European mountains using their Chromebooks and shared the information they collated with the class.
R.E
This week, we learned more about the importance of the Ten Commandments, where they can be found, and how they support Christians in leading good lives. We also discussed the significance of stained-glass windows and shared laws and rules that we might follow at home and school and why they are needed.
P.E
Here are some pictures of 3B in their gymnastics lesson. This week, we focused on stretches and how to use them in a short performance. The children recapped different stretches, including the star, pike, and tuck, and then worked in pairs, combining stretches and rolls to perform for others.
Computing
Our unit focuses on the use of email. Last week, we shared the different ways to communicate with others and the advantages and disadvantages. This week, children practised composing, sending and replying to emails.
