Farsley Farfield Primary School

End of term!

Maths

This week, 3CW have learned more about equivalences on a number line and recognising what this looks like as a bar model. Children compared different number lines and found equivalences. They then went on to explore bar models as another method for exploring equivalent fractions. Children compared models of equal length. Towards the end of the week, they moved onto mass and capacity

3B have been reading scales in both units of measure, grams and kilograms. Children knew that 1000g = 1kg and explored this in more depth when comparing and reasoning about the weight of certain items.

English

This week, we have been focusing on editing our work and up levelling our diary entries. Children worked both independently and in pairs, identifying examples of when they had incorporated grammatical features into their writing.

Science

This week, 3CW have enjoyed practising their jumps and recording the distance as part of our unit on amazing bodies – perfect for a warm afternoon!

Climate zone and change

We have come to the end of our geography unit, and the children enjoyed adding detail to their climate change posters, as well as selecting a climate zone of their choice to research and share with their peers., They also created eye-catching and informative posters. It’s been wonderful to see children take an interest in the different climates and continue to discuss the way we can positively help prevent climate change.

PE

This week, the weather was lovely and bright during our afternoon of PE. Here are some pictures of Year 3 enjoying their choices: football, striking and fielding and skipping!

Year 3 skippers found the pretzel challenge both challenging and exciting, with some students able to complete at least five pretzels in a row, while others managed even more! Here are some pictures of them having fun practising over the last few weeks.

A walk into Farsley

Some of our children went on a walk to Farsley High Street. The children have been working on postcards and writing short messages, and they enjoyed purchasing stamps to send them home! All the adults were highly impressed with their manners, their awareness of their surroundings, and their discussion of the importance of road safety, which is something they have been working on. The children then came back and ate some of the fruit that they had brought and enjoyed sharing their thoughts on the different fruits.

PSHE

This week, 3B learned more about stings and bites. Children discussed ways to identify if someone has had an allergic reaction and how to help them through role play. They then went on to create a mind map of a range of reactions noting down how to seek medical help and what to mention.

Music

Here is 3B’s music performance of The Three Little Birds. 3CW’s performance will be uploaded the first week of summer term.

Computing

This week, 3B have been discussing the meaning of a budget and when one might be needed. They then created formulas to work out calculations on spreadsheets.

Special mentions this week – Harry, Elijah, Harriet, Leo, Eraj, Izzy, Ayesha, Inara, Imogen, Abdul Wahaab, , Cillian, Dylan, Cillian, Sev and Hannah!

This term has been a busy one, and we are incredibly proud of the children and the progress they have made throughout the term. We have navigated our rainy days with positivity and have loved learning and playing outside; now the sun is making a more frequent appearance!

We hope you have a wonderful half term and a well-deserved break.
