Farsley Farfield Primary School

Grand Depart cycle event

Farfield and 50 other schools took part in a superb Tour-related cycling and scooting competition at Temple Newsam today. Children from Reception to Y6 made up our team and we cheered each other on all day. There were competitions for the red and white jersey (scooters up to Y3), green jersey (time trial), polka dot jersey (hill climb) and the arduous and prestigious ‘maillot jaune’. Everyone put so much effort in cycled/scooted really well. Hamzah won his ‘maillot jaune’ race and was so strong on the final hill climb! The event was superbly organised by Leeds City Council and it included a guest appearance by Bernard Hinault – perhaps the greatest Tour de France rider of all time! The lack of a smile by the child in the photo can be explained by the fact that she was exhausted having just completed her race and the fact that she didn’t really appreciate who this gentleman was! The photographer was excited though.

Well done everyone!

We travelled from Gloucestershire to see the Grand Depart. It was a fantastic occasion and it is wonderful to see how much the school and local community has got behind the event. You have all done Yorkshire proud.
