Happy Easter

Good evening,

The sunny weather has arrived just at the right time.

English

In English this week, we have been completing and editing our own versions of the ending to The Explorer.  Editing work is a difficult skill but is very important, especially when looking for missing capital letters and full stops.

Maths

Our area and perimeter unit has finished. There were some tricky problems set during the lessons, with finding the area of composite shapes especially challenging. If your child found this aspect hard, click to watch a video explaining how to calculate answers.

DT

Both classes have spent several hours this week designing and sewing their rainforest animals. We were very impressed with the independence of the children, along with the skills that they showed when learning the back and over stitch. We had a great selection of strangely coloured but well designed animals. 5KH were a little behind at the end of the week and so will be finishing their projects next half term, with more photos to come.

Music

The song we were learning this half term was Erie Canal. 5B worked very hard to master the glockenspiel parts, while 5KH focused on singing solos and in small groups. Our end of half term performances can be seen here for 5B and here for 5KH. This song looks back at life on the Erie Canal in the 19th century. The singer talks about his mule called Sal who pulls the canal boat, and how he will miss her when she is replaced by a steam-powered barge. The song was originally called Low Bridge, Everybody Down and was written by Thomas S. Allen from Massachusetts in 1905. It has been covered by numerous artists including this one.

Have a great Easter break. Enjoy the chocolate and sun and see you all in a couple of weeks.
