Happy Holidays
It has been a super busy week full of new learning and experiments and the children have really impressed with their effort and attitude when working in groups.
Maths
This week, we have come to the end of our maths unit focusing on multiplication and division. We concentrated on dividing using flexible partitioning and using remainders. Using their understanding of bar models, we looked at how this might change when scaling items two, three and even four times bigger. Next term, we will be moving on length and perimeter.
English
This week was all about instructions! Children began the week by looking at a range of instructions, discussing their purpose, and then using imperative verbs. Children enjoyed writing instructions and using bossy verbs; some challenged themselves to include fronted adverbials. We ended the week by writing up instructions on our mummification experiment.
History
This week, children recapped the significant achievements of ancient Egyptians and the development of the job roles, including the scribe, led to the rituals linked to the afterlife being done correctly. Children were fascinated by mummification and the journey through the underworld to the afterlife. We ended our learning by mummifying tomatoes following the steps of mummification. The children observed and wrote predictions and looked forward to seeing what happens to the tomatoes after half term.
African drumming
Year 3 have been working hard with Ms. Howells to learn drumming patterns over the past two half terms. They can play together in time, listen and respond in question and answer rhythm games and have made some great music. We hope you enjoy the short video clips showcasing some of our work.
Computing
Touch typing has ended, and children have enjoyed challenging themselves. We have focused on sitting correctly, discussing the importance of taking breaks and placing our hands correctly to make typing easier. It’s been wonderful to see several children grow in confidence and become faster at typing different letters.
Reading buddies
3SB enjoyed meeting their reading buddies in Nursery this week, and here are a few pictures. We were very impressed with their behaviour and how they sat and read to the children.
PE
Here are some pictures from Dance and OOA. Children enjoyed working in groups to form different animals and working against a time limit to create words and letters.
In Dance, children enjoyed fun and games and ended the session practising the remainder of their dance routine.
Science
James Bond gave us a task in science this week, and the children had to work out which surface would be best for him to chase baddies. Children wrote down the method and used a Newton meter and a shoe to measure the force needed on different surfaces. They enjoyed creating bar charts using Google Sheets to show the results and writing conclusions.
Fun in the snow
We had some snow on Thursday and Year 3 were very excited about it!
Reading
This term, 3B won the award for being reading experts in KS2! They were very pleased, especially with three of them reading the most books!
Well done to our special mentions – Toby, Hajira, Beatrice, Grace, Ollie and Alfie!
Please continue to remind children to practise their times tables on TT Rockstar and use Mathletics to develop their maths skills over the holidays. The new reading challenge theme for February is ‘animals,’ please remind children to add this on their sheet on Google Classroom and have their reading records ready when reading to an adult.
We hope you all have a lovely and restful week and hope to welcome the children back soon.
Mrs Begum and Mrs Sykes
