Headteacher blog 15th March 2024
It has been another dull and wet week. The grounds have never been so muddy! I don’t think I have ever yearned so much for a bit of sunshine and dry weather. Thankfully, the children are still bright and enthusiastic.
We got some lovely feedback from the ‘Sing and Swing’ workshop and concert last Friday. Claire Rivers, the Artforms teacher that leads the projects across the city, wrote to me afterwards and said: “All the Sing and Swings have been different in many ways (parents attending/not etc), but I can honestly say that yours was the most buzzing and fun event that we have held, with such a fantastic atmosphere. I’m so glad that the parents were able to attend and see the children perform. It is obvious that music and the arts have a special place in your school and it was great to be a part of that.”
Later on Friday we had the PTA World Book Day family quiz. This was a lovely event and Ruth Hopkins did so well producing a great book-themed quiz that was accessible to children and adults. My favourite round posed questions about class texts from Reception to Year 6. I was impressed by the book knowledge of both the children and the parents – they scored more highly than I would have had I not been the compere! There were also lots of well-dressed tables and even one well-dressed team all in Wizard of Oz costumes. (Coincidentally, Show Time club are off to see that show next Tuesday – I wonder if some of those children will wear those costumes to the theatre?)
This week we also got our new pet Kune Kune pigs and they have spent a couple of days settling into their new home on the top field. We have had over 60 offers from families to provide weekend visits and lots of junior children, with wellies, have been visiting at break times. It must be a bit overwhelming for the 10-week-old piglets at the moment but I am sure that they will get more confident and engaging with the children as they mature.
