Headteacher’s blog 6/12/24
The rain was torrential on Thursday evening and I saw fountains erupt from roadway drains on Cotefields Avenue. Once again, our infant hall flooded and we are mopping and sucking up water to get the space usable once more. Site staff were working until well into the evening. A blocked drain may have contributed to this, but that building does have a long history of flooding and whatever we do doesn’t seem to stop it. This time, it seemed to come up from under the floor. Climate change may be contributing as the intensity of rainfall does seem to be increasing.
Show Time club members were lucky and dodged the rain on the way to see The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe at the Leeds Playhouse. Last week, we got vertigo watching Hairspray at The Alhambra, but this week we had some of the best seats in the house, many right on the front row. It was a superb and spectacular show: not exactly a soft-focus family Christmas story, more a dramatic, dark struggle between good and evil. The children loved it!
On Wednesday, we had a successful Festive Fair organised brilliantly, once again, by our fabulous PTA. Thank you to everyone that donated, volunteered or attended the event. A couple of the teachers were traumatised after working on the tombola: more staff needed next year as it is so popular and exciting!
