Is it half term already?
The half term after Christmas seems to fly, but the children have worked extremely hard during the last five weeks. We are hoping for drier weather soon so that we can all enjoy the school grounds, but who knows. (We suspect that rain and mud is actually more enjoyable than sunny weather for a lot of children).
Music
In Music this half term, the classes have been learning how to sing and play the song Freedom is Coming. It is a song originating in aparthide South Africa and is a song of encouragement, stating that freedom and justice will eventually come.
5KH have several children who play instruments and have learned the song.
You can see 5HB performing the song here.
English
In English, the children have been learning and performing A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
You can see videos of their performances here, here, here, here, here, here and here.
Homework
Over the holiday, we feel that it is important that the children enjoy their tinme off school and have a well deserved rest. As a result, we have set some homework, which can be completed during the first week back. Maths activities have been set on Mathletics, which will count to the children’s 1000 points needed to gain a certificate.
There is also the ongoing learning of spellings. If your child can learn 10 or 12 spellings a week from either the Year 3/4 or Year 5/6 spelling list, it will help their overall progress. The 3/4 list is here. The 5/6 list is here.
Reading Eggspress is a great site to find books to read, and completing activities on these also gains reward points and certificates.
Please do as much or as little as you feel your child can achieve, whilst having their break.
Have a great holiday and see you all on 19th February.
