Meet Yorkshire and the Place Between!
This week has been a fun-filled week, even with all the rain!
Maths
This week, we started our unit on multiplication and division. Children enjoyed finding equal groups and discussing how they knew all the groups were the same using key vocabulary. We then moved on to using arrays that match our sums and multiplications using terms such as ‘lots of’ and ‘groups of. ‘ We enjoyed using our 5- and 10- times tables to identify patterns and found that some multiples overlap. Next week, we will continue to develop this.
English
We had lots of fun in our writing lessons this week! We finally completed our scene descriptions and created magical doors representing the Place Between. Children will be taking them home at the end of the term, and we’re excited for you to hear their brilliant descriptions.
Poetry Performance
This week, we have also been practising our poem, ‘Adventures of Isobel,’ and both classes enjoyed watching each other perform. We hope you enjoy them!
Meet Yorkshire
This week in geography, we learned about the physical characteristics of Yorkshire and had a go at plotting some of the different rivers within Yorkshire on a map. We shared what we liked about Yorkshire and the beautiful things it had to offer before we became Yorkshire and had to persuade people to come and visit. Yorkshire loved sharing that it has lovely moors for you to see and reminding you to wear hiking boots when going on a trek. It also doesn’t like rubbish being thrown on its land – nor do we at Farsley!
PSHE
This term, our unit has been about bullying, focusing on the meaning of bullying and what it means to be a bystander. In classes, we discussed ways to prevent bullying and created informative posters, including tips for others to use and share.
R.E
We have been continuing with our learning of parables and this week, we listened to the story of the Good Samaritan. Children enjoyed hot-seating different characters and asking questions about their feelings at different points. We then discussed the importance of kindness and reflected on our question about how Christians lead good lives. We used our understanding to consider ways that we could help and be kind to others. Children created beautiful storyboards showing a scenario, what they would do to help, and a hand with different ways to be kind.
If we all work together!
We love a bit of singing and dancing in Year 3 – here is a snippet of 3B getting into the groove! ‘If we all work together’ was a favourite!
Reading
A new month means a new theme for our reading challenge. This month, it’s winter! Please don’t forget to remind children to add the book they have read linked to this theme onto Google Classroom.
Homework
This week’s homework is a TT Rockstars battle between the two Year 3 classes. Who will be the winner?
Well done to our special mentions this week – Meaghan, Xavier, Zayn and Wilfred.
Have a lovely weekend!
Mrs Begum and Mrs Sykes
