Outside at last
Science
After a very snowy week last week, we have finally been able to get out into the grounds at playtimes. We also took the opportunity to look around the school and investigate the condition of the building as part of our materials topic. Whilst some aspects were found to be in need of repair, the children noted that there were some areas that had recently been renovated. After discussing why crumbling bricka and flaking plaster are a problem, the children wrote a report for Mr Harris highlighing any improvements they felt needed to be made.
PE
The children have started their new PE activities this week and the group attending The Depot wasted no time when attempting to complete bouldering climbing routes.
Maths
This week, we have moved on to multiplication and learning how to use a formal method to work out 2 or 3 digits by 2 digits calculations. This is a tricky concept as there are several stages that need to be completed accurately. Below is a video that will help your child with their homework.
English
In English this week we have been looking at the Revolting Rhymes written by Roald Dahl. We identified features that he used to make his work engaging and funny and have tried to replicate this. He tended to use a particular rhyming pattern, added alliteration and repetition, and then added an unexpected twist to the end of his retelling of a traditional tale. The children generally found this to be a very enjoyable task and we had some outstanding poems at the end.
This is the start of Anaya’s poem.
Rumpelstiltskin
An old lady on the street
Felt a little incomplete
The poor old lady wanted fame
Mrs Sally was her name
She thought her daughter could spin straw to gold
And then soon the king was told
He locked her up in one tall tower
Then he felt like he had power
The poor girl was stuck and sad
Then up pops a little lad?
Oh young girl you in some pain
I will do it for your chain
She passes it and he does his job
She felt like that she was robbed
The king was like a flower
Then took her to a bigger tower
Yet again the girl was in a state
She realised that this was her fate
The suddenly ding ding ding
Then the man wanted her ring
What should the little girl do
Helpless she gave him that too
Trip
Finally, letters have gone out this week about the trip to Cartwright Hall. Please return slips and make payments by Friday next week. Thank you.
Have a great weekend.
