Reception News – 10.11.23
Phonics
We have learnt the digraph ck this week. We have also learnt about e and u.
Maths
This week we have focused on comparison. We have enjoyed playing a ‘Who has more than?’ game and the children have used the language more than and fewer than.
Amazing Owls!
Our focus book this half term is Owl Babies by Martin Waddell.
We had a super visit from Yorkshire Owl Experience. The children got very close to these amazing birds.
Celebrations
We have started talking about all the things some of us might celebrate – weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, Easter, Pancake Day, Diwali and Eid.
We also talked about Guy Fawkes’ plot to kill King James I and blow up the Houses of Parliament and that it didn’t work. Some families celebrate with fires and fireworks.
Hindus and Sikhs will be celebrating Diwali this weekend – The Festival of Light. We have read stories about Rama and Sita and Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji.
The children have had fun creating lots of beautiful firework pictures and making their own fireworks.
Remembrance Day
The children have learnt about Remembrance Day and why we remember it. They understand why we buy Poppy badges, bracelets and snap bands – “The money helps people who got hurt“.
Bonfire Fun Event
Don’t forget we will be having our bonfire event on Monday 13th November at 2.30pm – 3pm. It will be held on the infant playground. Please wrap up warm. If the weather is very wet we will host the event in the infant hall. Please enter the school using the pedestrian gate on Cote Lane and make your way onto the playground. This is the gate near the Reception classrooms.
Have a great weekend.
