Phonics

Our tricky word this week is ‘into‘. Can your child say this word in a sentence?

We have also learnt the phoneme/ grapheme ‘igh‘ like in ‘light‘ and ‘oa‘ like in ‘boat‘ . Can you use your phonic flashcards to make words that have igh and oa?

We have enjoyed watching Geraldine learn the trigraph ‘igh’ and the digraph ‘oa.’

Maths

This week, the children have been developing their understanding of composition or the numbers within numbers. A key focus was exploring ways to represent numbers using a die pattern.

This helped them secure their understanding of the pairs of numbers that make 5. We also began to explore 6 and 7 as numbers that are composed of ‘5 and a bit’.

Jasper’s Beanstalk

Our focus book this half term is Jasper’s Beanstalk by Nick Butterworth and Mick Inkpen.

This half term we will be doing lots of planting and learning about how plants grow. We will also be looking for signs of Spring. On Thursday 29th February RGK will be spending all afternoon on the school farm. Please can they all bring their wellington boots that day as it is very muddy! RP will be going to the school farm on Thursday 14th March.

You are all invited to join us at our ‘Spring Event’ on Wednesday 27th March from 9am – 10am. This will be a fun Spring hunt around our school grounds. More details are in the letter attached to today’s email.
